The Next Public Forum - 18th October 2010
We will meet at Oakengates Theatre (The Place) at 10am for 10.30am the theme will be “ Getting Ready for Digital." In April 2011 the Shropshire area will be changed over to digital television. Many of our members are concerned by this and are unsure how it will affect them. We will have speakers to explain how the changeover will take place and what help will be available to older residents in Telford. There will be a short annual general meeting before talks on digital tv. Before the meeting there will be tea or coffee and light refreshments will be provided afterwards. If you are over 55 and live in the Telford area you will be very welcome.

Computer Project
The Senior Citizens’ Forum are initiating a project which will enable housebound older people to obtain the benefits of using a computer. This will help to relieve their social isolation, give them access to information over the internet and improve their communication with friends and relatives.
We have been offered a number of second-hand laptop computers which will be loaned, on a short-term basis, to people taking part. We already have a number of volunteer mentors who will provide help to set up the computer and offer ongoing assistance and tuition when required.
We plan to loan the computers for about six weeks to allow the housebound person to decide if the purchase of a computer will benefit them.
If your company or organisation is able to give us laptop computers for recycling in this way please phone Anne-Marie on 01952 211410.
We would also like to hear from anyone who would like to become a tutor, especially ladies. For more information please phone Anne-Marie on 01952 211410. |
