COSTS OF CARE
The Government has launched a national consultation exercise on the future organisation of care including how costs are to be met. You will know that arrangements in Scotland are very different from those in England with the full costs of care being covered in Scotland as against the means testing arrangements in England. The Government is looking at a ‘wholesale’ rethink of care and support of older people and people with disabilities.  The intention is to issue a green paper next year and to understand the issues being raised we have organised a workshop event on Thursday 30th October with both Age Concern Shropshire Telford & Wrekin & the Borough of Telford & Wrekin Council.  We will be providing the option of attending either the 2 – 4pm OR 6 – 8pm event.  Places are limited on a first come first serve basis but we very much hope members of the Forum would like to attend.  To book please call Kester Black on 01952 582931. This will be the chance to have your say on what is probably the biggest single issue for older people in England.

Dementia
The Forum Health and Care Action Group together with the local branch of The Alzheimers Society are joining together in an investigation to find out as much as possible about the current experiences of those affected by dementia in the Telford & Wrekin area. We want to collect the thoughts and experiences of those experiencing dementia themselves or caring for a person with it. Full details of our project
Development of Forum Activities
The Forum has recently been allocated a sum of money to carry out three projects to help the PCT to help 'hard to reach' older people, to find the service gaps and evaluate the current service for black and ethnic minority groups and to work with other organisations, who offer residential care to find meaningful activities for their residents. These are very important areas for improvement and will involve the Forum in a lot of work - if you would like to help, especially if you have some experience in these matters, we would be very pleased to have a chat with you and give you a more detailed explanation of what these projects will involve. Please phone Kester on 01952 582931
